For years, I’ve been exploring my inner world using mindfulness and NLP (neuro linguistic programming) techniques. From dealing with anxiety to improving relationships, I’ve discovered that by looking within, I can gain the insight I need to help me unlock the answers I seek.
I began studying NLP back in the early 1980’s. I first discovered it when a friend suggested I read Frogs Into Princes: The Introduction to Neuro-Linguistic Programming by Richard Bandler and John Grinder.
Later, when I began studying mindfulness, I found that I could combine NLP with mindfulness to tap into my deeper emotions and patterns of thinking. I’ve also learned how to use my improved focus to better manage my life and deepen my understanding of who I am.
While the journey hasn’t been without its challenges, these processes have given me a source of strength and resilience I never knew existed. By taking mindful pauses throughout the day and using focused visualization, I can easily access what I need in any given moment.
These tools have also allowed me to better connect with my intuition and cultivated a higher understanding of the world around me.
By remembering to be mindful and using the awareness NLP provides me, I’m able to stay present and focused on the present moment. This helps me make decisions based on reality, rather than imagined fears and uncertainties. As a result, I’m more empowered and in control of my life than ever before.
What is NLP?
NLP is based on the idea that our thoughts, language, and behavior are interconnected. NLP teaches you how to use language to understand and shape these connections, helping you change how you think, feel and act.
NLP operates on three main levels:
These are the neurological processes that take place in the brain, such as perception, memory, and emotion. NLP practitioners believe that by understanding how these processes affect us, they can help people overcome limiting beliefs and negative thought patterns.
Linguistics includes the verbal and non-verbal use of language and communication. By understanding how language is used, you can communicate better. This helps you build rapport with others which leads to better relationships.
This refers to the behavior and thought patterns a person develops over time. By identifying and changing these patterns, you can improve your personal growth and development. This can lead to making long-term positive changes.
What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness involves being aware of your present state, in this moment of time. It helps you become more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations. Instead of being distracted or judging, you simply observe what’s happening.
Using meditation, deep breathing and body scans, mindfulness helps you improve clarity and concentration. It can also help you create a meaningful connection between yourself and the world around you.
NLP and Mindfulness – A Great Set of Tools to Help You Improve Your Life
You can combine a mindful approach to living with the awareness that NLP provides to gain better clarity and focus. This will allow you to feel more connected to who you are and the world around you.
You can also use Mindfulness and NLP techniques with hypnosis. We’ll discuss this in an article sometime in the future.
Being mindful allows you to observe thoughts and emotions that may have been outside of your awareness without judgment or attachment. This conscious awareness of your limiting beliefs can provide insight into patterns of behavior that hold you back.
Once you become aware, you can use NLP techniques to overcome the limiting beliefs and negative self-talk that may be hindering your progress. Using NLP techniques such as reframing, anchoring, and visualization, you can create new, positive thought patterns and belief systems that support your goals and aspirations.
A Simple Process You Can Use for Your Personal and Professional Life
Combining mindfulness and NLP techniques can be effective in a variety of ways, here are some examples:
Overcoming Fear and Anxiety
You can use mindfulness to become aware of anxious thoughts and then use NLP techniques to reframe them. This will allow you to transform fear and anxiety into confidence and self-assurance.
For example, let’s say you get nervous at interviews. When you notice yourself feeling anxious about a job interview, you can use mindfulness to help you become present and focused. Then you can use NLP to reframe the experience from anxious to being excited about having the opportunity to interview.
Once you have this new perspective, you can visualize yourself performing well and succeeding in the interview.
Improving Productivity and Performance
A few minutes of mindful meditation can help you calm your mind. Once you’re more composed you can anchor positive emotions to the task you’re working on.
This can boost your productivity and performance.
For example, you’re highly stressed because of an approaching deadline. Take a few minutes to mindfully practice deep breathing. This will calm your mind and help you regain your focus.
Now, think of a time when you accomplished an important task. Feel how you felt when you accomplished it. See how you performed. Hear what your boss told you. Now anchor this feeling to working on the present project. This process can relax your mind and motivate you to complete your tasks more efficiently.
Reducing Stress and Burnout
Mindfulness is one of the best ways to be more aware of your triggers. Once you become aware of a particular internal image of an event that triggers you, you can reframe it. This allows you to take control of your negative thoughts and emotions. It also helps reduce stress and prevent burnout.
For example, you notice yourself feeling overwhelmed with your workload. Take a few minutes to breathe deeply. Once your mind is calm, reframe the situation as a challenge rather than a stressful event.
Use These Processes for Personal Development
You can use these tools and techniques in your business and personal life. From overcoming fear and anxiety, improving productivity and performance, and reducing stress and burnout, these processes can help awaken the power you have within you.
If you want to reprogram your thinking and develop a calmer, more focused life, give these tools a try. They will help you unlock your brain’s full potential and use it to achieve your goals and dreams.
