In his book, Limitless, Jim Kwik argues that the power of your mind is immense and that you have the capacity to grow and improve throughout your life.

I totally agree.

As I point out in my newest book, Mastering the Mind Body, and Spirit, with the right focus, your mind can help you achieve nearly anything you want. The problem is, because of your upbringing and environment, you, like most people, never come close to tapping into your mind’s full potential.

How to use focus to change your life:

Let’s take a look at some simple things you can do to tap into the power of your mind.

1. Learn how to use your mind positively

Your focus is how your mind transforms your thoughts from abstract into reality. The reasons behind why you want to accomplish a goal helps you maintain your focus. It also helps you manifest your desires.

So, focus on your goals. This is how you can inspire yourself to take action.

How to use your mind power to change your life

The first thing you need to do is get clear about what you want.

Ask yourself:

What are my goals?

What exactly is it that I want to achieve?

By understanding precisely what you want, your mind will find it easier to stay focused on it.

Next, take some time visualizing specifically what it is that you want to achieve.

See yourself achieving your goals and living the lifestyle you want. Hear what people are telling you. Feel how wonderful it is to have achieved your goal.

Also remember to imagine yourself taking inspired, effective action every day.

2. Learn to believe in yourself.

The only way you will ever accomplish anything is by believing you can.

Your self-doubts will squelch your ability to make progress. You need to counter these self-doubts by boosting your self-belief.

This starts with you deciding to become the most excellent version of yourself possible. Because self-doubt is often a result of unconscious, negative thought patterns, the process of learning to believe in yourself can take a bit of work.

But it is work that is worthwhile.

By learning how to develop a deep belief in yourself you can begin to move yourself down the path to living a happier and more fulfilling life.

3. Take action.

This third step is the biggest one that stands between success and failure. Many people have lots of ideas of what they’d like to be, but they never take the action necessary to get there.

After you make your plans, decide to take steps every day that will take you towards your goals.

This is the only way you will ever see the results you want.

How to Stay Focused

Today, more than ever, distractions are all around us. Our connected world can make concentration extremely difficult.  

But to move forward, you must stay focused if you want to find the success you desire.

As Star Wars film director George Lucas points out: “Always remember, your focus determines your reality.”

Your focus, what you pay attention to, will determine the quality of your life.

If you focus on the negative, problematic facets of your life, they will expand. Likewise, if you pay attention to the positive, good things in your life, they, too, will grow.

Your life will begin to transform when you make good decisions, maintain your focus, and take the action necessary to attain your goals.


Easy steps to help you stay focused:

1. Simplify your goals.

Complicated goals muddle your focus. Instead, pare your goals down to the bare minimum.

While having several life goals is a good thing, you can only focus well on one goal at a time.

Analyze your goals.

Determine what goal is most important to you right now. Then prioritize your goals and invest your time on the ones that will create a lasting change in your life immediately.

2. Pick your most essential objectives.

Everyone has a different emphasis on what areas are most important in their life. These areas include your career, finances, health, family, and relationships, just to name a few.

You can use the power of your mind to help you focus on the area that is most important to you.

Let’s say right now you want to improve your finances by increasing your income.

First you need to get clear on how much income you need to make. Then you would need to decide and write out the actions you need to take to achieve your income goals. 

You can do this same process for your relationship, health, and fitness goals. Break them down and focus on the ones that are most important to you.

3. Reduce your to-do list.

While many people have a nearly endless list of tasks to complete, Jim Kwik suggests that we only focus on three daily personal and professional tasks. This focuses the power of your mind to prioritize working on what’s essential to complete each day.

For example, if you are creating a podcast, what are the essential tasks?

First, come up with some ideas, do some research, and then record the content.

Next, edit the content, upload it, and promote it.

Each day come up with three critical things to work on.

For example, your three crucial tasks could be recording content, editing, and, finally, uploading the podcast.

The next day, you might spend the day creating social media content to promote your podcast, interacting on social media, and then brainstorming new ideas.

As you can see, the three-thing rule helps you maximize the power of your mind by narrowing your focus to what’s most important right now.

Why you need to take action and make progress every day

As mentioned above, the only way you’ll ever achieve anything in life is by taking action.

The hockey great, Wayne Gretzky, once pointed out, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”

You’ll never reach a goal unless you DO something. Taking action is the only way you’ll make progress towards your goals,

Progress is essential for keeping your motivation high.

It doesn’t matter if your progress is big or small. The key is to keep moving in the right direction.

As Albert Einstein said: “Life is like riding a bicycle; to keep your balance, you must keep moving.”

How to keep taking action so you can continue making progress:

1. Stop overthinking.

While this is easier said than done, it’s necessary if you want to continue to take action and move forward.

If you find yourself overthinking, take a few minutes to breathe mindfully and then just start.

And stop trying to be perfect. It will never be perfect. It doesn’t have to be perfect.

Just begin and the rest will follow.

2. Create small, manageable goals.  

Big goals can be overwhelming and cause you to quit even before you start. On the other hand, starting with small tasks helps you to build self-confidence and resilience.

For example, the reason most people never write a book is because they focus on the goal of writing a book. Instead, break the goal of authoring a book down into simple, achievable steps.

For example, create the goal, “I will write 500 words a day”.

Now, as you complete your daily goal, it will motivate you to keep going the next day and the next.

Over time, 500 words a day turns into a whole book. A little progress over and over adds up!

3. Focus on the process.

This builds on from the last tip.

When you focus on the process, instead of the end point, you stay motivated. This is because you are focusing the power of your mind on the journey and not the destination.

Again, going back to your goal of authoring a book. By focusing on writing 500 words each day you simply have to sit down and write.

A pro tip is don’t worry about how good it is as you’re writing. Just keep writing.

A positive mindset allows you to see the possibilities instead of the obstacles. You are able to take risks because you believe in your ability to overcome any challenges that come your way.
