To get over his rejection, he took his family stay for 40 days in the Mojave Desert. When he returned, Coelho decided he would keep trying.

Because he believed in his book and himself. As a result, his book is now one of the most read books in the world

The moral of this story is believing in yourself may be your most valuable resource. How you see yourself has a powerful impact on your behavior and your experiences. Having this kind of mindset gives you motivation and energy to help you to reach your goals.

You deserve to be happy and believing in yourself is a key part of fulfilling your desire.  This is why today we’re going to talk about how to increase your faith in yourself.

Building Your Self-confidence

One of the biggest blockers getting in the way of believing in yourself is a lack of confidence. When you’re feeling unsure, you need to remember that confidence is a skill you can develop. As you develop your confidence, you’ll accept and trust yourself more.

Tips to build your self-confidence:

1.    Review what you’ve already accomplished.

When you’re struggling, it can be easy to forget how far you’ve come. Give yourself credit for your major accomplishments and the incremental progress you make each day.

Also make a list of these accomplishments. Write down the projects you’ve completed. Graduating from school. Finding your first job. Believing in yourself is a lot easier when you can show yourself proof of why you should believe in yourself.

2.    Set goals.

Earl Nightingale once said, “Success is the progressive realization of a worthy goal or ideal.”  As you set and accomplish goals, you are creating reasons to believe in yourself. And remember, making an effort is just as important as the end results.

3.    Change your inner dialogue.

How do you talk to yourself? When it comes to an inner dialog, many people aren’t very kind to themselves. Believing in yourself is much easier when you choose words that lift you up and inspire you to try harder.

4.    Make learning a lifetime priority.

There is a lot of information today and some of it changes daily. In order to stay up to date, look for resources that can help you to pursue your passions. Take courses online, read books, and talk with others about their areas of expertise.

5.    Practice Gratefulness

Gratefulness is simply acknowledging what life has already given you. You can cultivate an attitude of hope by being grateful for what life has already brought to you. Start your day with a smile as you remember your blessings and then focus on the small pleasures life brings.

Taking Care of Yourself

What you choose to focus on will make a big difference in your self-value. The following are some habits you can begin using that will protect your physical and mental wellbeing.

1.    Exercise daily to take care of your body.

Physical activity, such as walking and strength training help to reduces stress. These activities also increase the hormones that help you to feel calm and happy. At the minimum, aim for around 150 minutes of moderate aerobic exercise, like brisk walking, each week.

2.    Another way to take care of your body is to eat healthy.

Confidence comes a lot easier when your energy levels are high, and your blood sugar is stable. Make a habit of eating a diet rich in nutritious whole foods, including plenty of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains. You also want to avoid excess salt and sugar.

3.    Get enough good sleep.

While many people take pride in not getting enough sleep, it’s just not good for your body or brain health. The CDC report shows that your body and mind need 7 to 8 hours of restful sleep each night. The best way to approach this is to stick to a consistent bedtime and keep your bedroom dark and quiet.

4.    Find ways to manage stress.

What do you do to deal with daily tensions? Some people will lean on bad strategies like abusing alcohol or drugs to “calm them down but, of course, this leads to other problems. Instead learn constructive coping strategies. In addition to working out, you could develop a daily self-care practice like meditating or listening to soft music. You could also use visualization, which can go a long way toward believing in yourself.

Finding Support

Believing in yourself doesn’t have to happen in a vacuum. In fact, relying on others can often be a sign of wisdom and strength.

Strategies for developing support:

Make sure to nurture your relationships by staying in touch and being willing to communicate on a deeper level where you share your thoughts and feelings.

3.    Find a mentor.

Working with someone you trust who has already been down your path is a great way to gain guidance and valuable feedback about where you want to go with your career and other aspects of your life. Believing in yourself is a lot easier when you have a mentor you can relate to who also believes in you.  You can start with someone you know or ask your contacts for introductions to someone who could help.
